I enjoy creating energetic and vibrant acrylic paintings that are built from multiple layers. I create my work in an intuitive manner, from my mind to the brush. The light and landscapes of the East End of Long island create a frame of mind that allows my work to flow.
My first layers are often textured gesso, applied in a seemingly random pattern. I use the underlying texture to inform the application of subsequent layers of paint, sometimes adding further texture as I go. Sections may be translucent, allowing what is underneath to peek through, or opaque, hiding inner layers.
Much of my recent work is inspired by my sister’s delightful garden and koi pond. It brings me great fulfillment to create colorful and complex works that may bring joy to the viewer.
